have you come up with an alternative?

I've decided substack doesn't work for me. there are too many people teaching other people how to use AI and too many people who think AI art is a fun game and not something destroying the livelihoods of regular people here. it's not my place in the world.

I wish I could say yes ... I have been fiddling with bluesky, mastodon, Cara and notes ... so far the one where I have made the most connections to artists is here ... and none of my work gets posted without first being sent through nightshade and glaze (even on my website). I am working on a post about apps that are not focusing on ai which I recommend for that reason but that will not be out till the 11th.

I’m on Cara.

I didn’t like bluesky or mastodon.

I send my art through glaze but don’t have a strong enough system to do nightshade as yet.

thanks. I’m basically feeling resigned to giving up in a way. but I’d be interested in reading that post.

yeah I like cara but not a lot of activity yet except after the initial flurry ... somedays bluesky works for me others it is just a less mean twitter... mastodon is good if you get used to it ... I definitely find people engaged there if you figure out how to connect ... notes feels like a hit or miss to me but as I said in the post what I care most about is connecting with fellow artists and people who like my work. It has helped me re-think how I look at likes and people who comment. over all I think of substack as an extension of my website blog ... I post the same thing in both places and try to keep everything free of a pay wall

You wrote "Artists like me who fail creatively"...in my opinion you aren't failing creatively if you're expressing yourself creatively & are enjoying the process. 😀

Well that is true. I guess what I mean when I say I fail creatively is that, while I am still being creative and enjoying my work and what I do, I am failing by the metrics of society. I do not making a "support my family" living off my work, when I try to submit to agents I get the polite "not for us”, and by social media standards (which I don’t think anyone should judge by) I do not gain the type of following that many better known artists are lucky to have.

At the end of the day those metrics do not matter, and do not stop me from being creative doing what I love; but I think that is why I picked that name for my blog because I have not ever really met the “standards” that others would consider a success.

I guess what I really hope is that other artists see this and that helps them to be ok with whatever comes their way. That they shouldn’t judge themselves by the top talent who seems to always say, look here and do this and you too can be a success.

I think your comment "At the end of the day those metrics do not matter, and do not stop me from being creative doing what I love" is a good summary of these thoughts, and reinforces that you aren't "failing creatively" according to *your own standards* which is what really matter, IMO. 😀
