How do you handle illness when you’re a freelancer? I find that being ill is a lot harder when you are your own boss, how about you?
When you’re sick you don’t have backup to call in or a boss you can message and say… “hey I am sick, be back when I am not dying”. How do we as freelancers juggle the up and down of essentially not having a nine to five job.
I spent the last two weeks being busy with work, while on vacation and on top of that getting sick for the first time in a long while. I think trying to juggle illness with family time can be tricky enough without adding deadlines to the mix.
My husband always talks about having work-life balance, but as a freelancer who is also a full-time mom I cannot relate to the elusive work-life balance. To me it is work or don’t get paid, be a mom or the house is a mess and the kids aren’t fed.
It is possible that in my sick induce stupor I am just delirious at this point and that my drive to continue to be creative is hindering my own work-life balance attempts. It is also possible that I am just creeping towards burnout. I think in this case that I am mostly just sick and in need of rest, which I will hopefully be able to find more time for soon.
I leave you with a photo of my sketchbook (actually this one is from when my kid grabbed my sketchbook and started doodling) from the last few weeks… rest up and don’t get so run down that you catch a summer cold like I did.
Till next time keep failing creatively, and see you next week with some good news.
Thank you so much for joining me on my journey.

Remember that supporting me with follows or donations funds my creative practice … But honestly follows are great, I try not to hide things behind a paywall
Sometimes it's hard to get out of the "I need to work" mentality when I get sick and I feel a little guilty for having to rest for several days, but I try to think about other things and give my body time to recover. In my case having some money saved up also helps. Financial instability is the worst.
