This series is going to be an infrequent one. I have never really understood the ins and outs of social media. Most of the time I am late to the game and even if I am not, usually I get very little engagement.
I do not say this for sympathy. Actually, in a lot of ways I appreciate the lack of engagement. It means that those who do read my blog, look at my art, like, subscribe, etc., really truly like what I am doing. And in all actuality I have never been good at creating just for likes (something else I consider a good thing).
I do want to find more ways to work on art, illustration, and design. And in the process I hope to improve my own skills.
At the beginning of April I shared an older art piece and challenged people to come up with something creative to share using a favorite song from when they were kids. However, since writing that post I have been thinking more and more about all the different ways we fail. Needless to say I Failed at getting people engaged on sharing their failures 🤣.
I also read an article recently about how instagram is changing its algorithm again and that this will benefit original creators more. Personally, given all the memes I see on a daily basis I am doubtful but I do hope I am proven wrong. I gave up at trying to understand the algorithm long ago and I hate overly memed feeds anyway. To me that seems like a lazy way to get engagement.
I think I want to look at different art tips and how we can all help each other grow as creatives. I will look into different ways to share. Maybe I will record videos to post with different techniques we can all work on to improve our skills together.
This is my introduction to this, and I hope to provide value, tips, or at least an interesting read along the way. I appreciate any feedback on this, as well as suggestions of what you would like to see in this (hopefully regular) series about growing creatively and the failures we all have along the way.
Let’s all fail creatively, because without failure we never grow and evolve.
Thank you so much for joining me on my journey.
