Art & Good News 9-23-2023
Weekly roundup for September 23rd, 2023 with art and uplifting stories
Starting with some art…
I had fun fiddling around with the different types of images of things you can think of when you think of a trumpet. A conch shell has been used as a horn by many peoples over the centuries. If you need to get peoples attention then there is no better quick alert. I hope you all had a wonderful week.
Now to the Good News…
The Backyard Farmers Who Grow Food With Fog
In Peru, you can have some of the driest climates in the world. In Lima for example, they get less than one inch of rain for the entire year. Even with that little rain the country might hold an answer to less water in a changing climate. They have a thick fog for most of the year which they extract water from using fog catchers. This helps them to extract the water out of the air and use it in their daily lives. Resilience like this is proof that working with what you have can be good for people and the planet.
Thousands march in New York to demand that Biden ‘end fossil fuels’
The youth have gathered in New York in droves to protest the Presidents inaction on ending fossil fuels. While the Inflation Reduction Act did incentivize renewables, low carbon technologies, and Biden also canceled a huge contentious oil and gas land leases in the arctic, there is still much more to do to curb global warming. This story is showing me how important the worlds youth will be to making these changes. It gives me hope to see the youth putting pressure on world leaders to make the hard but right choices for our planet.
Meet Susan Murabana, the astronomer bringing the cosmos to Kenyan youth
A woman in Kenya is bringing a love of astronomy to young children and particularly girls in the country. She is hoping to inspire more children to study these STEAM fields and see that not only boys can love space and astronomy. With her Star Safaris and Traveling Telescope she is surely changing the lives of the kids by introducing them to the wonder of the cosmos.
