Starting with some art…
In keeping with the exhausted children theme, I was playing around with being tired for this illustration. This drawing feels especially appropriate this week because I have been kicking out an insane number of drawings for client work this week. I hope that your week had you all well rested, though.
Now to the Good News…
The enzyme that could help make energy dreams come true
Scientists in Australia have discovered that a bacteria they have been studying not only uses hydrogen from the air as a source of energy, but it actually produces energy from that hydrogen as well. This is an important key to Huc (the bacteria) unlocking our ability to one day produce energy from thin air. Also understanding this process can help us to shape and stabilize our climate future.
Lego to sell bricks coded with braille to help vision-impaired children read
Lego has taken a huge step increasing inclusion for kids who want to use their products. They worked with organizations from all over the world to develop bricks with braille that allow blind kids and their families to learn braille. It also allows them to interact with a toy that had previously been inaccessible to them. While the Legos™️ have been available to schools and organizations for free since 2020, they are now commercially available for families to take home. This is an amazing step towards including more kids in a really fun toy, that is becoming educational in so many more ways. My kids love Lego™️ and I am glad to hear that more kids will be able to now as well.
Forgotten Winnie-the-Pooh Sketch Found Wrapped in an Old Tea Towel
Millions of children know and have at least some experience with Winnie the Pooh, even if in some cases it is due solely to Disney. However, an original sketch was found tucked away and wrapped in a towel in the home of the family who used to run Foyles Bookshops. Now it is set to go to auction as one of the last known drawings of the famous bear by E.H. Shepard the original artist of the Winnie-the-Pooh books. Winnie the Pooh was one of my favorite children’s books when I was young and I have a special love for the illustrations from the originals.
