Starting with some art…
Sometimes life will beat you down but it is how we get back up that matters. Just remember that no matter how bad it seems you will survive and be stronger. May your week have been full of good things and wonderful news.
Now to the Good News…
New bionic hand allows users to control each finger with unprecedented accuracy
In some really cool new science, a new bionic hand and limb has been developed that allows people with more extensive amputations to have a freer range of motion. Doctors have been able to take advancements in science and medicine and rewire the limb in such a way that allows for the nerves to tell the new bionic arm what to do. It is also built with titanium allowing for a more comfortable fit, where older prosthetics would be too heavy and difficult to wear for extended periods of time. Now that the limb has been tested the doctors and scientists want to expand and get the technology to as many of the 60 million sufferers of these types of amputations as possible.
‘Gamechanger’: judge rules in favor of young activists in US climate trial
In a landmark case, a group of teenagers have successfully sued the state of Montana for failing to take the states contributions to climate change seriously. They successfully argued that the inaction in considering climate change harmed there right to a healthy environment as per the state constitution. This is not the only case working its way though the courts by young people, however, it is the first to make its way to trial and be resolved.
Afghan women set up secret businesses to escape Taliban bans
Women in Afghanistan have seen a reversion of their freedoms in recent years since the Taliban took over. That said they are finding ways to run their own businesses out of their homes so that they can still earn some income. It is not without challenges, the women still cannot go out without male relatives as escorts; and they still live with the possibility that they could lose a whole generation of education as well as their freedoms if they do not work and study from home. When possible the women make a case that appeals to the positive economics of their businesses, which helps many of them remain open despite the bans. We can only hope that the positive economics of this will continue to change minds.
