Starting with some art…
Disney had a huge influence on me growing up, and no character more so than the Genie. Robin Williams made me want to master different voices, and accents. I do not think I could ever hold a candle to some of the great voice actors, but at least I learned a valuable skill that entertains my kids.
Now to the Good News…
How Specialty Recyclers Are Reducing Waste
In the United States less than one third of all waste is recycled or composted. While there are companies that are getting more conscious of the materials that go into their products and how to make them more friendly in that department, the amount that still just ends up in a landfill is abysmal. With inconsistency between states and even between counties it can be very hard to know what if any of the things you put in your recycle bin will actually make it to be recycled, and god forbid you don’t rinse something well enough and it contaminates your entire bin of recycling. What is great about this article however, is that there are some amazing companies who are trying to tackle all this plastic and hard to recycle waste which would otherwise end up in the landfills. Companies like this who actually are trying to ensure more products get recycled properly and companies who are reducing their wasteful packaging, give me hope for the future of plastic waste.
Zimbabwean grandmothers transform mental health care globally
It all started with a bench. Mental health care has a revolution brewing and it starts with a very simple premise. A bench with a Grandmother who has a sympathetic ear to listen to you. We all need someone to talk to at times, and whether it is from stigma or financial reasons, there are those who have reasons they cannot get the mental health services they need. This very simple mental health benefit is taking the globe by storm and the benefits are measurable. While you may not have access to a bench if you are ever feeling in need of someone to talk to you can take a leaf from this book and reach out to someone you trust and go for a walk or find a bench to sit and hash out your feelings. You would be amazed what communication can do for mental health.
Common blood-thinning drug neutralizes cobra venom
Snake bites kill over 100,000 people a year, mostly in areas of Africa and South/South-East Asia. That said it has been discovered that Heparin, a common blood-thinner, and slow and in some cases even stop the toxins. Due to the fact that it cannot stop all venoms it is far from a perfect solution, but it is still a cheaper and more readily available alternative to other anti-venoms on the market.
