Starting with some art…
Dog is mans best friend, but it has been my experience that they do love a good snack too!
I currently do not have a dog for a pet, but I remember loving my dog when I was young. She was small and fat and we adored her. We probably gave her way to much people food a lot like the Disney animated short “Feast”.
I hope your furry friends are snuggly and fun, and that you had an amazing week with long walks and good weather.
Now to the Good News…
$1 Billion Donation Will Provide Free Tuition at a Bronx Medical School
Albert Einstein School of Medicine just got the gift of a lifetime, with a donation from Ruth Gottesman that allows them to provide free tuition in perpetuity for anyone pursuing a degree in medicine. This will eliminate the upwards of $200,000 in school debt and will hopefully allow for the school to encourage a more diverse student body to attend the program. Mrs. Gottesman decided that she did not need the Billion dollars left behind after her husbands passing and after years of donating to the school decided to make sure that they could take care of all students coming in and going forward. This is a wonderful way to relieve school debt for many students and allow for a greater diversity in the medical profession.
Research reveals that ADHD may have given us an evolutionary edge
A new study out of the University of Pennsylvania is challenging the perception of ADHD in our cultural heritage and how our ancestors may have benefitted in having ADHD when it comes to foraging for food. The tendencies to be distractible or impulsive may have benefitted early humanity when it came to finding food. The tendency to move around a lot and not sit still was mimicked in the study and showed that early humans may have developed ADHD tendency in order to enable them to be less afraid to expand their reach when looking for food. This study shows that we may be labeling something as a disability that is really an advantage in the right circumstances and we should be looking more closely at how people can thrive no matter how they look at the world.
California Releases Formal Proposal to End Fracking in the State
California stopped issuing fracking licenses years ago, however they have taken that step and gone further with it and decided to create a plan that phases out fracking entirely. Their goal is to protect the environment and public health by “moving beyond oil” as the Governor Gavin Newsom said in an interview in 2021. Environmental groups say this policy will eliminate pollutants in the water and air. There is a push to stop the policy from going through from the industry, however this is an impressive move from one of the largest states in the union to protect the environment and public health.
