Art & Good News 12-2-2023
Starting with some art…
The holidays can really slow you down. I feel very snail-like this week as I try to catch up on kids things, holiday prep, work, and so much more. It also feels like the days are just slipping by as we get so close to the end of the year.
Hopefully for those of you who celebrate your Thanksgiving was joyous and filled with family fun. As the holidays get into full swing I hope you all have wonderful winter plans to enjoy the season.
Now to the Good News…
Three good things: longlife tech to inspire us beyond our throwaway culture
From phones to laptops, to most of our everyday devices most people do not even think twice about replacing over repairing when something goes wrong. However, Positive News is highlighting three companies that are putting their money where their mouth is on making sure their products are sustainable and repairable. It is an admirable goal for companies to be really thinking about how long their products last and how to fix them instead of just getting rid of everything when it is no longer the latest and greatest.
Breaking the ice: Swedish city combats winter loneliness with “say hello” campaign
Winter has come to the northern hemisphere, and with the cold season in full swing up here Sweden has rolled out a campaign that is designed to combat loneliness. Called “Säg hej! (say hello!)”, it is designed to help people feel seen and that in turn brings with it a feeling of warmth to the cold winter months. I think we all have had feelings of loneliness in our lives and the act of a smile or a nod can go a long way to making people feel less alone. It can also foster a sense of belonging and inclusion for immigrants, or those who might otherwise feel like they are outsiders. Personally, I had never really considered how far a simple hello could go and I am resolving to make more of an effort to do this small act of kindness.
Thank you so much for joining me on my journey through the good news this week. With the holidays in full swing, I haven’t had as much time to search for good news which is why there are only two stories this week. We need to remember that there is light at the end of every tunnel and that together we can make the world a better place.
