Starting with some art…
When you’re drawing animals as often as I do, you start to see prompts in a whole new light. For this inktober prompt I had the word bulky and for some reason my head immediately went to what would Bugs Bunny look like in a puffer jacket. Which then became generic rabbit wearing a puffy or bulky coat. Thank you so much for joining me for my weekly jaunt into the good news of the world. I hope for an end to the wars we see in the world at the moment.
Now to the Good News…
Job Sharing Is Helping Parents Keep Their Careers on Track
The struggle of the working parent is real. It is almost impossible to maintain a full time job that includes promotions and still be there for your kids. This is why most parents either struggle or leave the workforce, which in turn leads to enormous pay gap when the parent does choose to re-enter the job market. Enter the new trend of job sharing, where companies essentially have two part-time employees (most commonly returning parents) in one full-time role. This has its ups and downs but is gaining traction as a way for employees not just parents to have the work life balance they want while still maintaining their job.
Judge overturns Galveston’s discriminatory electoral map in a voting rights victory
In a massive blow to those who would gerrymander election maps, a Judge in Galveston county wrote a 157 page decision leaving no room for doubt. Galveston diluted and broke up the only majority African American and Latino district. This ruling requires the county to redraw their maps and the new lines must have at least one district with a majority of African Americans and Latinos. The most important thing about this case is the powerful precedent it sets in the battle for voting rights in the United States. Everyone deserves a say in who represents them in government.
