Art & Good News 1-20-2024
Weekly roundup for January 20th, 2024 with art and uplifting stories.
Starting with some art…
It is hard to not feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. While we all can try being more mindful and zen. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that my “meditation” time just ends up being me napping most days. 😉 Being mindful and zen is a very in trend thing but personally I think the real goal is and should be the calmness that comes from being in a good headspace. When we achieve that we are less likely to end up snapping unnecessarily or being mean to each other. So try to achieve your calm place and if you get there by making time for a nap like me then enjoy the nap. I hope you all had a lovely week.
Now to the Good News…
Cape Verde reaches malaria-free milestone
Thanks to massive public health efforts, vaccines, and contact tracing, Cape Verde was recently declared malaria free by the WHO. The small island off the coast of West Africa, have focused on early detection and control of the mosquito population among other methods. They also went with the approach of offering free care and diagnostics for international travelers and migrants in order to stem the flow of the disease from mainland Africa. This is an example of what can be achieved when public heath works, and also can be seen as a blueprint for other small nations on methods and tactics that can be effective in helping to stem this disease from spreading.
Archaeologists Unearth Ancient Egyptian Tomb and Stunning Trove of Artifacts
Tombs excavated in Saqqara by Egyptian and Japanese archeologists has uncovered carved tombs that date back 4000 years containing a veritable treasure trove of new info about the area. The area that was excavated was once the ancient burial ground of the capital of Memphis allowing for finds that span many centuries and giving a unique insight into daily life over time. They discovered everything from funeral masks to alabaster vessels, which were typically used to hold perfumes. The discoveries have prompted further hope that more excavation in this historically rich area will continue to enlighten and educate on Egyptian life.
Good News Request for feedback
Hello all you wonderful readers. This week I am making a request. I have been sharing a bit of my art along with good news for over a year now. While I enjoy doing it, I am not sure if the pace at which I have been creating these is sustainable with other work and family commitments. I have thought about different ways to make this sustainable and work for me. I have considered sharing this bi-weekly, sharing less stories, or even dropping the good news all together. I worry about people feeling spammed or not actually finding the articles interesting. I started this as my own way to find and share the good in the world and while I still enjoy it, it is getting harder and harder to find time to devote to it.
