Starting with some art…
We all have weeks where hiding would be preferable to experiencing real life. That or we have fond memories of playing hide and seek growing up 🤷♀️.
In an effort to maintain an optimistic view of life I choose to think of the fond memories of playing hide and seek. It was always the most fun when it was dark, making hiding, particularly when I was smaller, really easy. Sometimes people never look in the obvious spot 😜. Did you have a favorite game when you were young to play with friends?
Hopefully you had a lovely week with good weather.
Deviating from the Good News…
Don’t worry the Good News won’t go away… 😉
This week I want to talk about what I have been noticing over the past few years in my social media feeds. It seems like there is always an artist with a course, or tips, or how to do this or that. My question is why?
Every feed seems the same, “10 tips to … free ebook with how to… sign up to get …”
I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I have signed over my emails for a free pdf, and I have certainly considered doing one myself (it would probably lift up my pitiful subscriptions). However, every time I do consider these things I think it would make me no better than other self proclaimed “experts” of art and design. Everyone has all the “answers” for what you need to do to grow and develop as an artist.
This does not discount that there are real experts out there whose education and experience is valuable. These people develop real courses and seminars that are a true value to the student who takes them. I just don’t agree with what essentially boils down to finding different ways of nickle and diming younger artists. I want to share my knowledge and tips in a way that adds to everyones collective success in our industry.
“Ok you’ve had your rant what’s the point…”
My point is this, I want my blog (be it on my website or on my substack) to be available to all. I want to share Good News (which will go out bi-weekly going forward) and art advice/tips/obersations on the off weeks. Sometimes that will mean a new “Gigi and Lulu” cartoon, on others it might be a tutorial, sometimes a client project I have finished, and maybe even the ocasional “here is what I have observed about the industry”.
I hate when people spam inboxes or feeds so this will continue to be a once a week on Saturdays (or Sunday if I am behind like I am this week 😬). The last thing I want is for people who have chosen to recive my emails to be annoyed and feel like it is too much.
I will never require money to view anything I post, I like sharing what I know and helping people. I am not sure how the archive works on substack but everthing that goes there is available on my website and that is always open.
I will always accept follows and donations and will continue to link to places where that can be done at the bottom of my posts.
“I am here for the Good News what does that mean for me?”
For those of you who subscribed for my Good News it will not go away, it is just becoming bi-weekly and if you want my website allows for you to just be subscribed to that and not all the other stuff. I have not figured out if substack offers the same option. I will do my best to make sure that all categories are appropriately sorted so you do not receive something you aren’t interested in.
I would rather you still want to read some of my posts, so if you are someone who only wants a specific topic and are having trouble being only subscribed to that please reply to my newsletter and I will try to sort it out for you 😊.
Thank you so much for joining me on my journey this week.
Would you like to have this delivered to your inbox every week?
If you’re not already I would love it for you to subscribe
Remember that supporting me with follows or donations on substack, Ko-Fi, or PayPal funds my creative practice… But honestly follows are great, I try not to hide things behind a paywall (well maybe some digital downloads in Ko-Fi for supporters…😉)
