Art & Good News 12-16-2023
Weekly roundup for December 16th, 2023 with art and uplifting stories
Starting with some art…
King Arthur pulled a sword from a stone and that made him king. Honestly though this illustration was inspired by the Disney classic “The Sword in the Stone”. That was one of my favorite Disney animated movies when I was a young kid. I really loved the Archimedes the owl in particular. The story they told was such a fun twist on how Arthur became the king and I highly recommend the movie if you haven’t already seen it.
Now to the Good News…
A Carnegie Hall Concert Series Designed for Mental Health
A concert that is designed to help your mental heath has been started at Carnegie Hall and it is having a massive positive impact on those who attend. Originally designed for healthcare workers and those affected by the justice system, they are introducing more and more intimate sessions for more groups of people. With the World Health Organization (WHO) 2019 report explaining that listening and creating music is extremely important for reducing stress, combating loneliness, and reducing anxiety it makes a program like this very valuable to peoples mental heath. Personally, I hope we see more programs like this spreading around the world and helping others find their center and calm in an increasingly chaotic world.
This German start-up can convert your petrol car into an EV in as little as 8 hours
Electric cars are looking more and more like the future of driving. However, not everyone wants to shell out the money for a brand new car. Enter e-Revolt, who have developed a kit that allows them to convert your regular gas guzzler into an electric dream for anywhere between €12,000 and €15,000, which compared to what a new EV costs is extremely affordable. They have a sort of stock method that at the moment can accommodate 42 different major car models, and if you find out your model is not on the list then no problem they are determined to meet the needs of anyone who wants to covert their car. The range of their battery is 155 to 186 miles (250 to 300 km) on a charge but they are continually innovating in order to increase that. Just think we could be heading towards a world where instead of buying a new car we just swap out the necessary electric components and move on about our day.
Sesame Workshop introduces tools to help kids understand addiction in families
As a child we always had PBS on in our home, and as a result Big Bird was one of my favorites (along with the Count 😉) when I was little. When I started having my own children we again watched as much PBS as possible. Sesame Street is a staple for so many families as a way to add to childrens healthy development and growth; that I find it particularly inspiring when I hear about initiatives like this that provide resourses for families and kids in need. The fact that there is a place to go with videos and resources that is available for free is a wonderful initiative.
Thank you so much for joining me on my journey through the good news this week. We need to remember that there is light at the end of every tunnel and that together we can make the world a better place.
